A new CMS/IFE system is installed. The system consists of two main boxes: eConnect LRU and Audio/video distribution box (AVDS). An additional galley installed touch screen panel will be used for cabin control, allowing cabin crew to control the CMS/IFE.
The eConnect LRU will be used to control various non-essential cabin equipment items, such as cabin 220VAC; cabin wash lights; cabin electric window shades; IFE control; cabin installed monitors. It also allows 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz) WiFi in the cabin. It will provide music and movie files to Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs). The eConnect is the multimedia storage source for the system. Also eConnect provides Flight info feature for the cabin passengers. The eConnect has various inputs and outputs such as RS485, Ethernet, CAN, discrete, relays, PWM, and digital potentiometers. Software updates to the eConnect can be done via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or with USB thumb drive configuration files.
The AVDS provides a network infrastructure for standard and HD audio/video content in an uncompressed format allowing for interconnection of source and displays.
The link (control & command) between the LRUs is done via the Ethernet and RS485 bus.
An Audio/Video AUX panel will be installed into the TV-monument, which allows user to interface the external HDMI sources to be added to the IFE system and an analog audio output for any customer supply carry on equipment.
